The objective of the Engine tribology research project is to
improve mechanical efficiency and usability of internal combustion
engines by means of tribology and to increase knowledge of
tribological phenomena appearing in internal combustion engines.
The Engine tribology is part of national ProMOTOR technology
programme 1999-2003. The project is being supported by the National
Technology Agency TEKES.
Industrial partners:
- Fortum Oil & Gas
- Wärtsilä Technology
- Sisu Diesel
- Volvo Technological Development
Project participants:
- HUT Machine Design Laboratory
- HUT Internal Combustion Engine Laboratory
- VTT Manufacturing Technology
- VTT Energy
The Engine tribology-subproject being done by HUT Internal
Combustion Engine Laboratory is mainly experimental, including also
literature research and bearing and piston calculations.
